The Sissala East Assembly is all set to embark on a massive sanitation campaign across the entire District as a measure to reverse the downwards trends in sanitation delivery in the past Hon. Karim Nanyua says. He said a meeting was held two days ago on sanitation to come out with strategies for combating open defecation, which therefore necessitates public education on the need for every landlord to build household latrines. The DCE emphasized that if landlords fail to do so after the education then enforcement through the court will be the initiated to get culprits punished to compel them built latrines. “Nobody would be allowed any longer to construct their buildings without including toilets in the building plan” he stated.
He also questioned that how many people in Tumu live on trees and not in houses to say they can’t build toilets and however expressed that “the assembly will do its part to ensure toilets are constructed in the public places especially in schools and market places but it is left for the landlords to do their part”.
Hon. Karim Nanyua further stresses that if Tumu cannot manage sanitation now it will be difficult when the district is upgraded to a municipal status and insisted that every day should be a sanitation day for people to constantly make sure their environments are clean. The DCE also laments the districts declined position on the CDD district league table on sanitation
