CONFLICT AND POVERTY GOES TOGETHER, ESCHEW VIOLENCE DR. BAWUMIA TOLD CHIEFS AND PEOPLE OF TUMU

The vice president of Ghana Dr. Mahamumdu Bawumia has called on the chiefs and people of the Tumu traditional area to let peace prevail in their Endeavours to foster socio-economic development of the traditional area. When the vice president on Saturday on behalf of the president Nana Akufo Addo joined Chiefs and people of the Tumu traditional area to celebrate annual Parigbelle festival, he emphasized on the need for the people to strive to live and work together in an atmosphere of peace with everyone is respecting the rights of every citizens in the area.
He highlighted that it was significant the theme of the festival “A vehicle for fostering good neighbourliness to propel the socio-economic development of the area” was chosen as sustainable development indisputably depends on peace. “We cannot achieve the vision of building a prosperous country if we cannot maintain peace in our communities, it is with peace we can build a better country”, the vice president stressed. “War and violence destroy people, conflicts destroys property that you have worked hard to build over the years, conflict and poverty go together” Dr. Bawumia warned. “To all of you taking part of this festival, young and old, let peace building be part of our festival and our living together”. He urged the elder to teach the youth through dance and songs and display of culture that it is with peace that we can build ourselves, families and stronger communities for development. “Let us use the bravery of our young men and women to build and to defend peace and not to promote violence” he advised. He said peace building should be seen as one of the important tools for development as without it there will be no continuity and we cannot plan for the future.
