With the confrontation of open defecation in Sissala East Municipality as some landlords have failed to construct household latrines, indiscriminate littering of plastic waste around it’s surroundings and unwillingness to pay property and cattle rate that amounts to low revenue mobilization, Hon. Ridwan Abass Dauda proposes for by-laws to address these challenges to pave way for development. He also outlined that poor BECE performance, failure for physical developers to acquire permit from the Assembly before putting up infrastructure which results to unplanned development in bigger settlements, early child marriage and teenage pregnancy in girls that results to school dropout are all challenges the Municipality is confronted with.
This does not exclude chieftaincy and land disputes in Sissala East communities Hon. Ridwan noted. He therefore emphasized that the elevation of the then Sissala East District to a Municipality comes with numerous responsibilities and calls all developers to abide by regulations governing physical development by acquiring permits be citing project. “Do not put the cart before the horse by building up to lintel level before you go for your permits” he expressed. Now that Sissala East Assembly is a Municipal Assembly, we must all put our hands on deck to move the Municipality forward. “Everyone has a role in this transformation and we must ensure that there is real positive change”. “In other to address some of these weaknesses I have enumerated, I wish to urge the Municipal Assembly to initiate bylaws, discus and get them approved and implemented to instill discipline in the system” the MP said. He also called on traditional authorities to hold citizens responsible for their negative behaviour.
