The SRC president of the Tumu College of Education Baharu James during their Annual week celebration called for a special attention to be paid to teacher trainees to lead Mother Ghana into the future and therefore expressed that it is their view that courses at the colleges of education should be based on subject areas to enable teacher trainnees have enough time to study rather than the combination and the continues change effected on the course every semester. If that is done will enable the trainnee teachers’ master courses and study hard to improve standards of education at the basic school level he appealed.
The SRC president said their curricula should be more of practical with effective teaching and learning materials, especially computers. This is because training teachers learn the concepts without knowing the good of it. Meanwhile, inadequate toilet facilities are a hindrance to Sanitation as the most affected who are girls resort to open defecation in nearby bushes. Inadequate water supply to the college is another challenge. it was disclosed that not all trainnee teachers have been paid the governments restored allowances since it was effected last year. They are therefore also appealing to government urgently ensure all payments are done as soon as possible.
