ACTIONAID GHANA TRAINS PTA TO PROMOTE GIRLS FRIENDLY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT.

Chair persons of Parents Teacher Associations in some selected schools in the Sissala East Municipal have undergone a day’s training on the composition of PTA Executives and on promotion of the rights of the Girl child in schools.
The training reminded the Chair persons of their role as PTA and how they should work hand in hand with SMCs as school Management bodies to promote standard education delivery. ActionAid Ghana that organized the training set focus on ten fundamental rights all schools must respect to promote girls friendly schools environment where both boys and girls are offered equal opportunity as way of reducing violence against girls and women in the northern regions of Ghana.
The rights includes right to free and compulsory education where education must gradually be made free at all levels. Right to non-discrimination with no distinction and respect of persons, right to adequate infrastructure where appropriate number of facilities are made accessible to all students, right to equal trained teachers and right to safe and non-violent environment. The rest are right to relevant education, right to know your rights, right to participate, right to transparent and accountable school and right to quality teaching.
The participants were also taken through a presentation on women participation in decision making to encourage them to empower and give chances to women to make decisions. The Regioal Director of ActionAid Ghana Mr. George Dery in an interview with Radford News said the training came under a project which also have a component of infrastructure with six classroom facilities for Kulfuo and library, mechanised boreholes and many others.
It is being implemented in Sissala East Municipal, Bawku and Nanumba districts. He said the program is sponsored by people’s post code lottery in the United Kingdom.
