Twenty-two-year-old Memunatu Bawa says Medical Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi say they would require at least Ghc5000 without post-surgery expenses to enable them carry a surgery on her face which has a tumor. The surgery will enable them remove a bone said to be a growth which has since left the right side of her face enlarged and her right eye almost submerged.

Memunatu Bawa who hails from Mwanduanu in the Sissala East Municipal Assembly about 30km from Tumu disclosed this when she was hosted Thursday, 17th January, 2018 by Mr. Mohammed Balu on the ‘Masie Breakfast Show’ on RadfordFM. She said she has suffered the tumor since she was eight years old.

She narrated that she has undertaken three surgeries so far but all to no avail. She had the first surgery in 2002 and the last two surgeries in 2003 and 2004. She was scheduled to have another surgery in 2007 but certain circumstances made it impossible for her family to foot the bill. Despite her challenge she didn’t drop out of school but persisted and completed Wa Senior High Technical School in the year 2015.

Memunatu however told Mohammed she was scheduled to undergo another surgery on July 10, 2018 at a fee of GHS5,000 which she has since been unable to raise leaving her condition to worsen. RadfordFM upon consultation with the family through a resident nurse of the community and quickly launched an appeal for funds to the general public where funds are currently being gathered to help her undergo the surgery. Total amount realized so far is far below Ghc1000. The general public is still being called on to come to her aid through MOMO number 0553576423.

Mr. Mohammed Bataglia of Virtue Foundation who heard her predicament through a RadfordFM Facebook-live show and promised to help speak to some medical doctors of the foundation and see how best the foundation could support the lady precisely on the circumstances leading to her situation and plans put in place after her surgery is performed.
