the Community Development Alliance (CDA-Ghana) in Partnership with the Civil Society Coalition for Climate Justice held a Press Conference that seeks to highlight the continues Illegal Logging of Rosewood & Other Tree Spices across several communities in the Upper West Region of Ghana under the Pretext of Salvaging.

CDA is also calling on the government to PROSECUTE HELENA HUANG who was arrested yesterday whilst transporting rosewood TO SERVE AS A DETERRENT TO ILLEGAL ROSEWOOD DEALES since there is a ban on activities of the tree. In the press statement the Executive Director of CDA Ghana Salifu Issifu Kankon disclosed that It is regrettable to note that, their field Monitoring and Investigations into this Illegal Rosewood Business in the Upper West Region shows clearly the active involvement of Chinese Nationals who are the main financiers and drivers of the illegal enterprise that threatens our very existence and survival in our already fragile ecology.

We have observed with grave concern that these Chinese nationals continue to provide funding, equipment and a ready market to trigger the illegal logging and sale of rosewood in the Upper West Region with impunity without being held accountable in accordance with our laws by the relevant state agencies who rather appear to be condoning or abetting these crimes being committed against us.

He further indicates that Whilst this illegal logging, sale, buying, transportation and export of rosewood and other tree spices is busily going on daily in broad day light for the past Seven long years, the culprits are rarely arrested, or persecuted
