Custom Officer Dies On Tumu Navrongo Road in an Accident


A Ghana Revenue Officer with the Customs Division at the headquarters Mr George Best Asante passed on instantly on the Tumu Navrongo road last Thursday.

The deceased now at the Wa mortuary died when he was travelling last Thursday 30th May 2019 from Hamile to Paga on a monitoring assignment with two others.

According to Mr Frank Yawson, a senior revenue officer at the Tumu border post told the RADFORDFM the accident happened at about 2:30 pm after the Tumu police commander informed him, saying “three officers from the headquarters were on assignment to Hamile in the Lambussie district, two officers and a driver Mr Mohammed Iluwani who sustained bodily injuries with Mr Clement Amankwa Bonsu Mr Yawson said the official vehicle they were travelling on, a Toyota Hilux pick up with number GN 8878-14 before Pina,18km from Tumu on the Tumu-Navrongo stretch lost control and somersaulted going down on the valley, unfortunately, one of them on board Mr George Best Asante died instantly after he sustained head injuries.

The two officers Mr. clement Amankwa Bonsu and the driver Mohammed sustained scratches on their body.

The victims after the accident remained unattended to for some time as vehicles were not moving on the bad road until after one hour when they established contact with the Tumu police, Mr Yawson added.

The injured who were brought into the Tumu hospital was detained overnight and discharged the next day. The deceased is still in Wa mortuary whilst the other victims have been assisted for further check-up in Accra.”
